CESCON works with landscape architects to provide specifications for footings, canopies and arbour structures to support their design. The owners of 19 Aird Street, Camberwell requested our services to design a steel pergola which would be used as an arbour structure. Additionally, they also requested our services with regards to assessing the capacity of an existing wooden frame with the intent of converting it into a swing.
CESCON conducted a site inspection of the property and provided the necessary design for the new steel pergola including specifications for footings, steel framing and connection details. After inspecting the existing wooden frame and performing necessary design checks, we provided the necessary strengthening measures which were needed to render the wooden frame strong enough to support the weight of a swing.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?
When it comes to landscaping, steel pergolas and retaining walls can greatly enhance the look of your outdoor space. However, it’s important to ensure that these structures are designed and built in a safe and secure manner. That’s where structural advice comes in.
Steel pergolas, such as arbors in the backyard or front yard, are designed to provide shade and add a decorative element to your landscape. However, if not designed correctly, they can pose a risk to safety. It’s essential to have a professional assess the area where the pergola will be installed and determine the correct foundation, as well as provide guidance on the size, type and strength of the steel framing required to support it.
Retaining walls, on the other hand, are designed to hold back soil and prevent erosion. However, if not built correctly, they can collapse and cause damage to the surrounding area. Structural advice can help you determine the right type of retaining wall for your needs, such as a gravity wall, cantilevered wall or anchored wall, and provide guidance on the materials, size and strength required to support it.
In conclusion, if you’re considering adding steel pergolas or retaining walls to your landscaping, it’s important to seek structural advice to ensure that these structures are designed and built safely and securely. This will not only enhance the look of your outdoor space but also protect you, your family and your property from potential risks.
